Sarco used in Switzerland

The BBC is reporting that the Sarco suicide pod has now been used for the first time.   Unsurprisingly, arrests have been made.

Although its use has been planned well in advance, the actual occasion seems to have come as a bit of a shock.   At a press conference earlier this month, Fiona Stewart of The Last Resort had announced that a “first user” had now been identified and that a date had been set.   She did not say, however, when or where the first use would take place.   Now we know.

According to the BBC, the Swiss Authorities learned about its use from a firm of lawyers.   We do not know whether that was part of a deliberate announcement by The Last Resort or whether the lawyers were acting in isolation in order to prevent their own involvement.

We do know that the location was on the Swiss side of the border with Germany.   The authorities, apparently, were on hand very quickly after the assisted suicide had occurred.   Arrests were made but there is no news yet about any charges being brought.
